A pie of a different crust

The Moosewood cookbook by Mollie Katzen is really so amazing. I've been falling into it more and more lately. Tonight I made cauliflower cheese pie, but rather than a flour based pie crust it calls for shredded potato. I'd never heard of such a thing, but it was delicious.

Snow day

Apologies to those of you who have had really snowy, crummy winters. For us the snow is so rare and exciting that it warrants blog posts.

Diamond jubilee

For the first time since our wedding Linton had an excuse to wear his kilt. (Yay!!!) It was for the queen's diamond jubilee. I love any reason to dress up, and this was a particularly good one.

Treasure (part II)

These cast iron muffin tins belonged to my great-great grandmother, Agusta Frances. Holy cow that makes them old!!! Their first batch of custardy popovers will bake tonight - wish us luck.

Very bad pictures of wildlife

The flicker loves my bird feeder, but is such a nervous bird that this sneaky bum shot is the best picture I can manage.

Treasure

Mom and I went through some cupboards yesterday and I came away with treasure! Part one: hand painted egg cups. Sweet!!!

Seriously not nice

A tick on your eyebrow, and then I come along and tug it out - that is seriously not nice for poor pooch.

Familiar?

I feel like there are so many pictures of Linton growing up with just this expression of, "What, just building a dam here!" Is this picture familiar to you too?

Chasing birds

Henry loves a good game of chase.

Windy

Very, very windy around here. I tried taking pictures of trees and waves, but nothing was really capturing just how windy it really is. Luckily I had hair at the ready looking dramatic in the gusts.

A quickie

No, no, no! A knitting quickie - get your head out of the gutter! After a long and involved project like this it is nice to get something on and off the needles in a couple of days, with yarn in your stash and a pattern in your library. Thankfully someone I know is cooperative to be 7 months pregnant.

The dead of winter

We have pretty dreary weather around here: it is very windy, and earlier the heavens opened with a momentary deluge of hail. So all of these bleak photos feel appropriate tonight.

But look some things are still green.

And other things are convinced that spring isn't too far off.

Golden birthday

The 4th came and went here without any mention of it being Henry-the-dog's golden birthday. Well, I say golden birthday. The truth is we adopted him on August 4th when he was reported to be about a year and a half. So the 4th of February is a made up birthday, but who cares? Happy golden birthday, dog.

Check out the new trick Linton taught me. I don't eat the treat 'til you say okay.
Good dog, Henry!

Goood play dead

Goood play dead, Henry.

Yellow bliss sweater

Happy days - my newest sweater is finished. I'm in love with it, and over wearing it like crazy.

Je t'aime

Yesterday I took home love cookies from Mount Bakery, where I work. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of both, we devoured too quickly. I only just managed to snap this mid consumption. It's a brown sugar shortbread cookie.

It's a small miracle that I don't take home more amazing bakery treats, especially with an employee discount. A will of steel - that's what I've got.

Getting better

I'm getting much better at remembering my reusable shopping bags.

Spice cookies

Okay, okay, Joy Of Cooking is annoying sometimes. But when you want to make cookies, and don't want to got to the store for anything Joy is pretty much the place to go. Love these spice cookies. I remind myself of Aunie by baking only 8 at a time and freezing the rest. Hooray for Grandmothers and their good lessons.
