When you've just bought a house, when your sister and her family are moving home, when you are about to turn thirty (gulp), your parents just might deliver a big car load of your childhood stuff. You might end up drinking too much wine and reading old correspondences and journals. And this is a very good way to deal with the fact that your house just got a whole lot quieter.
