Cream Cabled Hat

In an attempt to meet people I've gone to a weekly knitting night in Boulder. The gals there all belonged to a social-knitting-networking site Ravelry "Whoa!," I though, "These girls are bigger knitting geeks than me!" By the second week I realized it was contagious. I've joined ravelry, borrowed oodles of books and magazine from the Louisville library, and I've been knitting like a mad woman. The cream cabled hat is my latest finished project. Here's a link to the book where the pattern came from, OneSkein.

Fair warning: there may be more knitting posts to come.

Wedding Ring Spin

I know Linton isn't the only person who fiddles with their wedding ring, but sometimes, waiting for a meal to arrive, he takes it to new heights.

The Sunny Spot

Henry pretty much naps all day following the sunny spot across the floor, and up the wall.

Lion Gulch

After visiting the Stanley Hotel we went for a hike on the Lion Gulch Trail. It was a very pretty trail that kept close to a frozen creek. We delighted in letting Henry onto the ice to slip around Bambi style. It was Henry's first total off leash walk in the woods, and I was very nervous though he did well and knackered himself running.

The hike goes to old homesteads, but after a couple of miles the trail turned into a sheet of ice and we turned back promising ourselves to return in the spring. During the walk Linton and I noticed our bodies are more thoroughly acclimated to the altitude, though we did go home to soak in the tub and sleep like stones.

The Stanley Hotel

This weekend we took a trip to the Roosevelt National Forest. It was lovely to get out of town and explore for a while. Our first stop was to Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. The hotel is famously the inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining, however it was distinctly unspooky on the glorious Saturday morning when we arrived. The front porch was soaked in sun, and littered with white wicker furniture; we drank tea & coffee.

The highlight was when a group of teenage girls asked us to take their picture; I nominated Linton for the job. One of the girls gushed, "Where are you from?" When he answered, "Scotland" she shot her fist into the air and shouted, "YES! I'm going there! This is my lucky day!" He proceeded to take their photo with several cameras and they continued to giggle at everything he said. Awwww.

Friday Night

Friday night was just what the doctor ordered: wine, Iain Banks, a fire, and a phone call from Mom and Dad.
We were drinking killer red, our last bottle of WA wine - delish.

photo rejects

I take about fifty pictures of everything I make to sell. They get whittled down to the five that are listed on Etsy. Some of my favorites don't make it to the Etsy page like this on.

The Chapter of Wrong

I went out to lunch with Libby yesterday and had SO MUCH fun! She told me that the photos of Linton and my house looked very nice, which has inspired me to do a fun and light hearted post featuring some of my pet hates around the house. Enjoy!

And I couldn't forget to include the fabulous basement of doom!

Banana Pizza

You don't have to live with Linton for very long to learn of his absolute and total love of bananas. Some of his less conventional banana consumption habits involve fried for breakfast with eggs and beans, or fried and drizzled with caramel for dessert, both completely delicious. But we went to new levels last night with banana pizza. It was surprisingly good.

Orange gnome hat

I finished an orange gnome hat today. I had started to knit it last night while Linton read The Use Of Weapons by Iain Banks to me. Ahhh to be read to, there are few things lovelier.

Snow & Couch

We have been here a month and a day, and it hasn't rained once. Hmmm. I think if it does ever get around to it I'll go out and dance down the street in my bare feet. (Or maybe I'll just look out the window chuckling that I ever mentioned going out bare foot in the stuff) Anyway, last night it snowed again. I am told this has been a very mild winter so far, and that March is the snowiest month of all on the front range. I'm looking forward to that.

I miss water whether still or falling from the sky. Just the other day I looked in my rear view mirror and for a split second thought the sky was the ocean.

Notice that the Rampant Lion flag flies proudly in our front yard.

Also for my posting joy check out the new couch, which can masquerade as a chaise lounge or bed. It is my favorite piece of furniture very comfy- come to visit and sleep on it soon. Yes you!

Attention seeking

On Saturday morning Linton and I woke up to Henry in the middle of the living room thus:

He was starving for attention, poor boy. And now, Tuesday, I'm going to take a break from job hunting and listing items on Etsy to go on our daily walk to the dog park. "Hallelujah," says Henry.

Ice skating

What with Linton, Henry-the-dog, and me far away from so many friends and family, isn't it just the right time to start a blog? I thought so. Here are a few photos of us ice skating last night. We caught the downtown, outdoor ice rink just in time - it is closing next week. My favorite part was the great selection of tunes they had playing while we skated, including The Proclaimers "I'm Gonna Be." I feel sure they did it in Linton's honor.
