Day before preparations

I started up the apple pie yesterday. After buying Granny Smith apples I read Joy of Cooking who say, you can basically use any apples, but never Granny Smiths. This morning, after getting the pie crust and apples prepared last night, I read that you should only prepare your apples 15 minutes before putting the pie in the oven. Well to heck with you, Joy, my pie smells fantastic…here’s to hoping it tastes the same. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

Done in time for Thanksgiving; I rock.

You saw it here at its humble beginnings, and now I get to wear it for Thanksgiving. (I hope I don't spill on it!)

Thanks for taking pictures of me, Linton!

And with that cord...

We have been very warm the past few days.

Cord

Linton and I are now two people who own not only a wheelbarrow, but also a cord of wood. I've never felt so grown up in my life!

(Don't worry that isn't the whole cord, there is a second pile in the other covered area.)

Too funny

This is too funny not to share. Tracy, who sold us the wood, noticed I was taking pictures of the wood pile and volunteered to take a picture of Henry and me. He snapped the picture, looked at it, and with a kind of funny look on his face said, "Um, the dog is looking the wrong way. I should retake it." I told him, "Don't worry about it. If you wait for him to look at the camera we could be here all night!" Tracy left, I went into the house, looked at the picture and just about died laughing. I should have let him retake the picture, huh?

From Scotland with love.

Look what came in the mail for Linton! Holly sent him an uber cool Yoda T, which he totally loves.

Bag lady

What do I need all that stuff for? Knitting? Check. Book? Check. Lunch? Check. Christmas present shopping? Check. It feels good to get home and take a load off.

Quiet Sunday.

Linton was working on a programming task today, and I've done oodles of needle work.

My first embroidery. Thanks to Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Embroidery Stitches from Louisville's library. This is some really sloppy work, but hey you've got to start somewhere!

My Mondo Cable Cardi is coming along fast. I only have sleeves left to knit.

St Bernards

There were six, count them six, St. Bernard dogs at dog park this afternoon. They are the adopted dogs of a single family. Wow.

Woof!

My new best friend...

...has had a lot of attention this weekend.

A good Saturday

Sit up in the morning with Linton, tea and Iain Banks.

Drive to Nederland to eat and browse.

Further down the road splash around in the St. Vrain creek.

Lyons for more window-shopping.

And pinball.

Evening of three incredibly close games of backgammon.

replacement cushions

New cushions to brighten up the couch. Oh ya, and because the beagle at the other ones.

(Shhh, don't tell: I loved the excuse to get new ones.)

Early snow; late post.

It is a little funny to be posting these pictures today when all but the last of the snow has melted. But what a pretty morning Friday was. I started to feel like Linton and I were old pros at this whole snow thing with our boots, snow shovels and salt for the walk.

Spooky house on Main Street

We had fewer trick-or-treaters than expected so have a lot of sweets to plow through. Watched a spooky but sweet film Let The Right One In, which I recommend. Very pleasantly non Hollywood.
